Tree or Four News items on treend… 🌳

Why are trees in Urban Spaces important? It’s really simple.

  • More of the bad stuff exchanged for the good stuff we breath. This is called respiration - in science speak this is CO2 exchanged for O2 by plants and trees.

  • Decreased temperature of urban environments. This means less heating, less cooling required (energy) and not to mention the comfort of moving about the streets.

This diagram simply exemplifies why this is important. You can find more about this via James Godfrey-Fausetts original post on Linkedin here

This article explores how iwi led initiatives such as rāhui in the Waitakere Ranges have reduced the impact of over 800,000 visitors spreading Kauri Dieback over the past 5 years.

  • These initiatives are beginning to support and shape wider environmental initiatives with matauranga (Māori knowledge systems) looking to increasingly support and reinforce leading scientific wisdom.

"Land is precious, more precious than anything." - Will Harris

Land has been fought over for eons. Who controls it is not the contention. The vision one has for this land and the transparency of this is the contention.

Some fantastic food for thought from Will Harris on Bill Gates becoming the largest farmland owner in the USA...

  • Can technologists manage ecosystems...?

  • Low tech solutions to high tech problems...?

  • Does the promise of Plant Based proteins have the risk to replicate our current broken agricultural system...?

  • Learning from our mistakes...?

The real debate is not the ownership of the land. The debate is The vision for the land and how the asset will be managed. You can read more here.

We are dedicated to hitting the goal of buying our very first Regenerate NZ forest by Christmas. To achieve this, we now know that we need to hit $100k in annual recurring commitment. This provides certainty needed to purchase a million dollar forest that we can successively Regenerate over the next 100 years.

Jonny & Alex
